When you talk about cleansing or
detoxifying the body?
What is our ultimate goal?
The goal is to boost our
natural body's ability to heal itself,
namely our immune system or "immunity".

The toxins that are so prevalent
in our environment are
becoming more and more difficult to avoid.
From healthy products, to healthy food,
to air, water and everything else.

I am definitely a nature lover.
I guess we all need to become
nature conservationists to help
preserve what clean air, water
and environment that we have left.

Ultimately, if we preserve our environment,
we are then able to preserve our health also.

How can we preserve our environment?
Here are some ideas?

Recycling is a good start.

Buying and using products that are biodegradable.

Plant a tree.

Get a tune-up for your car.

Water your lawn in the morning.

Donate unused items to Goodwill.

Walk or ride a bike for transportation,
for a change.

Use rechargeable batteries.

Here's to your health!

D E T O X I F Y and B E A U T I F Y (part three)

Continuing on the idea of detoxifying the body, we can look at some of the unhealthy ingredients found in food :

monosodium glutamate
propylene glycol
high fructose corn syrup
sugar
If we had an assignment to write down all the ingredients in all the

food that we eat,

we would be so tired of all the writing, there are so many

chemicals.  So what is clean food?

How can you avoid all the "unhealthy" chemicals?  A solution is to

just buy products that are nutrient-dense, low carbohydrate food.

How to begin a healthy approach?
If I said it another way, how do we increase our longevity and

decrease exposure to chronic disease?
MAN-MADE food is full of the chemicals.  Increase the simple

foods in your diet and you will start to see results right away as to

how you feel and the best part, you will start to become lean,

without even trying.  Let us heal ourselves.  Let us stop consuming

the man-made chemicals.

How do you detoxify your body?

You first must stop ingesting the toxins in the first place.

The second step would be to eat

foods that detoxify the body naturally,

green chlorophyll-rich foods help to do this.

Chia seeds, aloe vera and

seaweed all help to clean out the intestinal tract.

Parsley and cilantro are also very

excellent natural food ingredients that detoxify the body.

Good water, fresh air and sunlight,

also are necessary for the body to detoxify.
The Raw food diet has these ideas behind it.  When you detox, your

skin clears, it actually glows, your teeth become white, you have

more energy, some people have become "cancer-free" and some

people have lost weight.  Detoxifying leads to a more

healthy,

beautiful

B E A U T I F Y and D E T O X I F Y (part two)

Formaldehyde is another commonly used chemical found in household cosmetic and personal products.

Today we will look at our second ingredient, Formaldehydewhat it is, what it does, where do you find it, and what can it lead us to.  We will look at the other chemicals in following days,
if you care to read the blog daily.

Formaldehyde, what is it?

According to OSHA

formaldehyde is defined as

Formaldehyde is a colorless, strong-smelling gas often found in aqueous (water- based) solutions.
Also according to an online dictionary Formaldehyde (n.) is
1.(MeSH)A highly reactive aldehyde gas formed by oxidation or incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. In solution, it has a wide range of uses: in the manufacture of resins and textiles, as a disinfectant, and as a laboratory fixative or preservative. Formaldehyde solution (formalin) is considered a hazardous compound, and its vapor toxic. (From Reynolds, Martindale The Extra Pharmacopoeia, 30th ed, p. 717)

According to the CDC, Formaldehyde has Synonyms & Trade Names, such as:

Formaldehyde, Methanal, Methyl aldehyde, methylene glycol or methylene oxide.

Formaldehyde, what does it do?
Commonly used as a preservative in medical laboratories and mortuaries, formaldehyde is also found in many products such as chemicals, particle board, household products, glues, permanent press fabrics, paper product coatings, fiberboard, and plywood. It is also widely used as an industrial fungicide, germicide and disinfectant.

Formaldehyde, where do you find it?
Again this is where you come in.  Keep reading your labels at home for household cleaners and personal products, and see if you can find any of the following, contained in them:

Formaldehyde, Methanal, Methyl aldehyde, methylene glycol or methylene oxide.

So one example is the new e-cigarettes that have been found in a study to contain formaldehyde and this is a known carcinogen.

Formaldehyde.  Where does it lead us to?
Get the facts from the Agency on Toxic Substances and Disease Registry.  Become informed.  Protect yourself, your family and friends.  Preserve your health.
Love to all, Nikki B.

B E A U T I F Y and D E T O X I F Y

SO IT GOES
We talked a little yesterday about the chemicals in food. But why not take a little glance at some of the names of chemicals in our makeup; hand lotion; soap; shampoo and household cleaners?

It's not a new discussion here regarding "things that are bad for you" and some of the names may be very familiar to you.  Let's just go over a few and what are the actual facts regarding each chemical, according to a California State Report.

Phenol, Formaldehyde, Cocamide DEA, Nitrosamine, Propylene glycol, Phthalates, and Parabens are just a few ingredients used in common household cosmetic and personal products, to name a few.

All we have to do is grab a product and read the back of the label, and if they contain any of the ingredients listed above, then you will be taking the first step in "Detoxifying your body" of harmful chemicals.

The purpose of detoxifying your body is to bring you to your most optimal state of health and well being.  Let's begin.

Today we will just look at the first ingredient, Phenol, what it is, what it does, where do you find it, and what can it lead us to.  We will look at the other chemicals in following days,
if you care to read the blog daily.

Phenol, what is it?
Taken from the free online dictionary

phenol is defined as

 /phe·nol/ (fe´nol)
1.an extremely poisonous compound,C6H5OH, which is caustic and disinfectant used as a pharmaceutic preservative and in dilution as an antimicrobial and  topical anesthetic and antipruritic. Poisoning, due to ingestion or transdermal  absorption, causes symptoms including colic, local irritation, corrosion, seizure,cardiac arrhythmias,
shock, and respiratory arrest.

According to the CDC, Phenol has Synonyms & Trade Names, such as:
Carbolic acidHydroxybenzene, Monohydroxybenzene, Phenyl       alcohol, and Phenyl hydroxide

Phenol, what does it do?
It is used as an antiseptic and was first used in surgery. Today it is used in household cleaners and personal products, such as mouthwash. Also they are used in resins or glues in wood products and plastics, as well as, in bold-colored dyes.

Phenol, where do you find it?

Well this is where you come in.  It is time for you to start reading your labels at home for household cleaners and personal products, and see if you can find any of the following, contained in them:

PhenolHydroxybenzene, Monohydroxybenzene, Phenyl alcohol, Phenyl hydroxide or Carbolic acid

Phenol.  Where does it lead us to?

Well hopefully we are better informed, ready to face the environment in a more prudent manner and better armed to choose what we buy because of how it may impact our health.

Let's recap.
Phenol. Is a toxin found in daily household items that can lead to: serious damage to heart, blood vessels, lungs, kidneys, central nervous system; seizures; coma; birth defects; cancer; death.

(facts can be found in the msds or material safety data sheet, that is used by most companies/hospitals)

Wishing you all good health and wellness today!
Love from Nikki B.

Food Challenge

I love to talk about nutrition (since I am a nurse) with my patients.  So I thought I would talk to you about it in my blog.  Have you ever considered how hard it would be to eat "Clean Food?"  Now you are probably wondering
"What is she talking about here?"

Well let's take a look at our choices. There's home cooked food; fast food; ethnic food; canned food;
frozen food; prepared foods; catered foods; raw food;
whole food, just to start the list but
I could go on.  It's just to get you to
really think about your food and
where it comes from and what goes into it.
Clean food to me would be
"with no chemicals added".  The fewer
"middle men" that handle
my food, the better.

So clean food to me, would be whole food, locally grown, and in its natural state.  In other words, the way nature intended it to be.  But I am not a vegetarian (although I could be).  Anyway the less chemicals (or words that you can't pronounce) on the label of any food, the better.

Best of all, if the food does not have
any ingredients (or label) added.

Why should I challenge you to this?
It's to emphasize that the quality of our food
has changed since the advent of fast
and processed food,
but we all know that!
But to what degree, it is not so apparent.

In fact we don't even bother to look at those
"chemically type of words" on the back
of our food products, because we know
they are there and we just take
the FDA's word for it that it's "OK!"

But so are GMOs, that are endorsed
by the FDA (the consumer protection squad,
or so you thought!)

But that's another subject and will have
to wait for another day!  So here's to clean food and feeling a little bit healthier today!
Your challenge if you are willing to accept it,
is to write down every chemical
that you read on the back of the foods
that you are eating, and actually look it up
and see what are the facts on it!
Most chemicals are toxic; cause cancer;
asthma; allergies and much more.

Hopefully, the list will be small
to non-existent, because
I would hope you are eating whole fruits,
vegetables and meat from your local grower/market
to feel your optimum.

Love to all, Nikki B.
